Breaking news: Ralf Ragnick provides injury update on his squad to face Newcastle United, and said the star player is a boost to his squad,as he returns ,pogba unavailable.
Manchester United have finally had some
good news on the injury front and have a near
fully-available squad for their scheduled return
to action against Newcastle United.
United haven't played since December 11
after a Covid-19 breakout in the squad forced
the postponement of fixtures against Brentford
and Brighton, in a less-than-ideal start to
life as United boss for Ralf Ragnick.
The German has now been in charge for
more than three weeks and has only managed
three games due to the disruption but
sounded positive ahead of the return to the
pitch in his pre-match press conference.
Speaking about the status of his squad,
he revealed that only the injured Paul pogba
remains unavailable with all players who
were injured for their last outing and those
who contracted the virus having recovered
and in contention to play at St. James' Park.
"As you know, last week the last training
session on Thursday, from there to today,
we had eight few players and three goalkeepers
and then we closed the training ground for
four days in order to break the Rangnick said.
"And today was the third day of training
this week, we started on Tuesday, we trained
yesterday and today, and today we have 25
field players, so quite apart from Paul Pogba
, he's the only one who's still missing out,
everyone else is on board. The development
of the last week is extremely positive."
That means Rangnick will be able to call
upon two players he has not yet been able to
play during his reign so far, with Cavani
and Raphael Varane now available.
The duo haven't featured since the 2-2 draw
with Atalanta on November 2. Centre-Varane
suffered a hamstring injury just 38 minutes
into the game in only his second game back
after recovering from a groin strain.
Cavani came on for the final 20 minutes but
had irritated a tendon problem in the previous
match which has kept him sidelined in the
weeks since. Both have been back in training
over the last fortnight, however, and could be
involved on Monday.
Pogba remains on the injury list, though, as
he continues his recovery from a thigh injury
he suffered in France training in the last
international break.
